Day one hundred and sixty-six of three hundred and sixty-five

God is Teacher; We are Students
I just finished my last semester of undergraduate school. It was a tough semester academically, spiritually and emotionally. One of my last classes was Senior Seminar and the final project for that class was a healthy sized paper on my philosophy of ministry. I asked the Lord to help me write it because after all any ministry is for His glory, and He did. Honestly, there are parts of the paper I don’t remember writing and chunks of time I spent writing that are a blur…I completely believe the Lord translated/transported me during some of the process…divinely mysterious. I was in my car after the paper was finished and was thanking God for His help and presence and jokingly said (out loud), “I guess we will see what kind of student You are when I get my grades back.” I chuckled to myself, so proud of my sense of humor. Then, it dawned on me that God is never a student. My sense of humor crawled back into its hole as I thought about what it meant that God has always been and everything exist through Him. He is not a student of anything, but the master of all things. He is the teacher and He loves to teach – I am the student…always the student. I am a student of the Lord!
Listen to how the Psalmist is a student of the Lord’s:
Psalm 119:33-40
Teach me, O Lord, the way of you statutes; and I will keep it to the end.
Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart
Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it.
Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not selfish gain!
Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways
Confirm to your servant your promise, that you may be feared
Turn away the reproach that I dread, for your rules are good
Behold, I long for your precepts; in your righteousness give me life!
Who is God? He is the teacher, the master, the genius, brilliant… Are response to Him? Be a student and learn His ways.
